Welcome to Strawberry Lodge

Strawberry Lodge, in Kyburz, CA, is an historic Pony Express stop that features lodging, a restaurant, bar, banquet and wedding facilities. With rooms starting at $49 a night we are the right choice if you would like to be close to Lake Tahoe, Hiking, Rock Climbing, Lover's Leap, & Fishing with The American River in our backyard! Located 30 minutes from both Placerville and Lake Tahoe, we are a family paradise that accepts dogs. We have amazing views of Lover's Leap and surrounding mountains, a large lobby with games and books just right for families and friends to gather around our huge fireplace while enjoying our historic lodge.

Open every day for food, lodging and your favorite drinks. Enjoy crackling fires, food, wine & spirits in our lodge nestled at the foot of Lover’s Leap, a location that entices rock climbers, hikers and visitors from near & far. The exceptional views in our little “Yosemite” is an excellent location for vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts.


You will be close to Hiking, Horsetail Falls, Pyramid Peak, Lover’s Leap and Sierra at Tahoe. Also near Echo Lake for fishing and boat rides, Desolation Wilderness, Hiking Pacific Crest Trail/Tahoe Rim Trail and with Lake Tahoe only 18 miles away skiing, gambling and shopping are nearby.

Spending the night at the picturesque Strawberry lodge, famous resting spot for Pony Express Riders, is like stepping back in time. The tranquil setting and slower pace of our lodge enables guests to unwind and recharge. Enjoy falling asleep listening to the wind in the trees and the American River in our backyard.

While visiting, feel free to sit outside where you can enjoy sounds of the rushing river, enjoy a meal from our restaurant or relax at the river’s edge on rustic benches and picnic tables. Enjoy the fresh mountain air, gaze at the nearby mountains as you relax and enjoy the natural outdoor beauty around us. Seasonal Activities & Events
Spring is a great time for retreats, family/class reunions and weddings. Artists, writers, musicians, photographers, quilters, singles and church groups often utilize our banquet hall for retreats and social functions. The roaring river, with its spring runoff, creates a beautiful backdrop for any lodge activity.

Summer visitors enjoy the close by Eldorado National Forest or Desolation Wilderness where you can enjoy backpacking, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, cycling or rock climbing or almost any outdoor activity you can imagine! After your adventurous day, enjoy a meal in our dining room facing the American River & Lover’s Leap or drop into our bar for cocktails and to swap stories with fellow travelers.

The beautiful fall colors can be seen up Highway 50 on your way to Strawberry Lodge. A time to move at a slower pace, relax and enjoy the cooler weather before the snow falls.

Winter makes Strawberry Lodge look like a whole new world. With its blanket of snow, Winter sports, including snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, sledding or cross country skiing revolve around our annual high mountain snow pack. Start your morning by a roaring fire and prepare for your day with a hearty meal, cocoa, cider, or a Bloody Mary before hitting the slopes. Upon your return you may step into our bar with its wood burning stove and savor a warm drink. Enjoy local cuisine in our dining room with views of snowcapped peaks. Conclude your evening relaxing & meeting new friends in our cozy lobby. Enjoy meeting guests, opt to play a few games, browse through books or fall asleep in front of the fireplace.
